DIY Make your own Summer Crayon Lipstick/Lipgloss!

This is my first DIY. I love DIYs because they are a lovely way to spruce up a Saturday afternoon. With the new update of my "Birdyblue's Summer of Fashion", I decided I would link this DIY to Summer. Now, I love lipstick and lipgloss (who doesn't?),so when I found this recipe for a "How to make lipstick from crayons", I loved the idea so much I decided to try it for myself. I did some research and found out that many lipsticks on the market, contain horrible chemicals and metals such as lead, so today, Im going to show you how to make a crayon lipstick made from entirely natural, unharmful ingredients. When I tried it, the end result came out so well, I made four in different colours and flavours, slightly changing the recipe each time. In total they take about 15 mins (at most. Soo...lets get started!

What your going to need:

1. Sunflower/ Olive Oil (1tsp or more depending on how much your going to make)
2. 1 Crayon (In a colour of your choice)
3. Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly (1tsp or more depending on how much your going to make)
4. Honey (optional)
5. Vanilla Essence (optional)
6. Fine body/craft glitter (optional)
7. You could use any natural essences, e.g lavender

Utensils:

1. A knife
2. A spoon/stirrer
(anything like a lolly stick etc)
4. A small bowl
5. A microwave

*If you don't own a microwave, your going need a saucepan, a stove and a jug.

1. Red 2. Pink 3. Wild Strawberry

*The colour im using here, is Wild Strawberry (yum!)

Step 1. In your bowl, place your Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly, Sunflower/Olive oil and 1/2  your crayon (I found I made a little bit to much with half a crayon, so use around 1/3) and chop it into little pieces so it will melt better.

Step 2. Place the bowl in the microwave and put it in there for 6-8 minutes depending on the quantities your using (*at this point, you could add your flavourings but I waited until the after the mixture was out of the microwave).
* If you don't have a microwave, put some water in a sauce pan on a medium heat Place the crayon, Vaseline/petroleum jelly and the sunflower/olive in a jug (Pyrex is best) and hold it on the water until it is runny.

Step 3. When you are done melting the mixture, it should be of a runny liquid (if not, put it in the microwave for however longer it needs). Stir the mixture and add flavourings, for the "wild strawberry" coloured lipstick, I used runny honey and vanilla essence.

*This is after I put it the tub, it should be very runny, almost like juice

Step 4. As soon as you have stirred in the flavourings, (if you put any in) pour it immediately into the lipstick case/cosmetics tub (do this quickly as it will harden) and put it into the fridge. By having a runny consistency, it will create a smooth, shiny finish. Leave it in the fridge for a few minutes (don't touch it, this is the mistake I made before it was completely set ;D). Once taken out, if in a lipstick case, make sure it works by twisting the bottom.

(Tip: If you want it to be like a proper lipstick, lay the lipstick on its side and make a slanting top with a knife by chopping it at an angle.)

This is the pink crayon, It came out really well and looks great! To create a lipstick like this, make sure the liquid is  very runny.
This is the red crayon, it looks cute in a heart case!

Step 5 (optional): Decorate the lipstick with ribbons, sequins, buttons...anything!

*Sorry the quality of the photos is very bad :\*

1. Lipstick Case- Decorated with yellow ribbon tied in a bow (left lid plain) , vanilla flavour, pink crayon
2. Flower case- Decorated with yellow button, vanilla and honey flavour, wild strawberry crayon
3. Circle case- Decorated plainly (lid has glitter on), pink crayon
4. Heart Case- Decorated with leaf (to look like apple or strawberry), no flavour, red crayon

*So bad quality photos, I will improve on quality*

I have loved making these lipsticks, the colour is very pigmented and comes out amazingly! I also like that they are made out of natural ingredients, not processed chemicals! I am definitely using these for summer and definitely making more of them! They save you  money bye using ingredients you would find at home instead of going out and buying a £10.00 lipstick.

Did you like my DIY post? Maybe you have ideas for other DIYs I could do? I would love to know, so comment below!
